INDEPENDENT ROAD SAFETY AUDIT SUB-SERVICES FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF NATIONAL ROUTE
R31 SECTION 8 FROM R31/N8 ROUNDABOUT (KM 31.0) TO R31/N8 I/S (KM 39.79)
T1.1 INVITATION FOR QUOTATION TO UNDERTAKE AN INDEPENDENT ROAD SAFETY AUDIT
CLOSING DATE (AT 11:00): 22 May 2026
KBK Engineers (Pty) Ltd were appointed by the South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL)
for the Improvement of National Route R31 Section 8 from R31/N8 roundabout (km 31.0) to R31/N8 I/S
(km 39.79). The project is in the Frances Baard District Municipality and in the Sol Plaatje Local Municipality in
the Northern Cape Province.
The project entails the improvement of National Route R31 Section 8 from R31/N8 roundabout (km 31.0) to
R31/N8 I/S (km 39.79).
The major aspects of this project include the following:
• Widening the road to a 13.4m surfaced width.
• Strengthening of the existing pavement.
• Vertical realignment.
• Extension and widening of three (3) major culverts.
• Hydraulic capacity improvements at one (1) major culvert.
• Temporary two-way half-width traffic accommodation during construction.
• Stop / Go traffic control along Landbou road.
• Temporary traffic accommodation at existing roundabouts.
An Independent Road Safety Audit is therefore required for this project.
Such scope of work shall include but is not limited to:
• Conduct a Project Information Review.
• Conduct a Site Inspection.
• A Stage 2 Audit will be the Contract Scope as reflected by the Preliminary Design phase of the project.
• Produce a Stage 2 Road Safety Audit Report for the Preliminary Design.
• A Stage 3 Audit will be the Contract Scope as reflected by the Detail Design phase of the project.
• Produce a Stage 3 Road Safety Audit Report for the Detail Design.
• Initiate and Conduct a Completion Meeting.
Companies with road safety and traffic engineering experience are therefore invited to submit a quote to
undertake an independent Road Safety Audit. A clarification meeting will not be held, but it is essential that
prospective tenderers familiarise themselves with the site.

Quotation documents are available at no cost in electronic format downloaded from the SANRAL’s website by
the following link https://www.nra.co.za/service-provider-zone/tenders/open-tenders/. Tenderers must have
access to Microsoft © Office 2013 and Acrobat Adobe © 9.0 or similar compatible software.
Tenderers must submit, via email to henkp@kbkengineers.co.za, the duly completed Form A1.1: Certificate of
Intention to Submit a Tender prior to 08 May 2026.
Failure to submit this certificate would result in the tenderer not receiving addenda or additional issued
information and may result in the tenderer being non-responsive, if “any material amendment/s” contained in
the addenda or additional information is not included in the tender offer/submission.
COMPLETION AND DELIVERY OF QUOTATIONS
The closing time and date for submission of quotations is 11h00 on 22 May 2026.
Only quotation offers delivered to the address specified in the Tender Data will be accepted.
Telegraphic, telephonic, telex, e-mail, facsimile and late tenders will not be accepted.
Quotations may only be submitted in the format as stated in the Quotation Data.
